Frequently Asked Questions
Why is assessment important?
I know what my child needs.
A thorough assessment of your child's skill
levels and abilities gives us a more complete picture of what we need to
do to help them. Otherwise, if we start a method of therapy, - no
matter how effective it may be for most kids - we can't know for sure
that it will help your child. We don't believe in wasting your
time, energy or money. It is extremely important to understand the
real cause of their struggle, so we can help them overcome their
learning difficulties for a lifetime!
What is so different about
what you do?
Many tutoring services
simply provide a basic academic assessment or a norm-referenced academic
assessment coupled with an IQ test. From this, they form a tutoring
plan and hope your child does well with one-on-one instruction.
Our approach is totally different. We focus on trying to discover the cause of the problem, not
just a quick fix. Our thorough assessment gives a great overall
picture of where we can help your child. If we can't provide help,
we offer referral services to those who can. Our goal is to stay in
contact and work together with everyone concerned to better understand
your child's individual needs and help provide a progressive plan that
benefits your student and their academic development.
Can we see our child's scores
and progress reports?
Absolutely! You receive copies of all
testing results. We also communicate with you on a regular basis
about your child's progress throughout our program.
How long does the assessment
take?
We divide our assessment program in 2
sessions, both need to be in the morning. Depending on the child,
each session may last from 2 to 3 hours.
How often do you see each student and
for how long?
That depends. An individualized
program is tailored for your child depending on their areas of strength
and need.
-
Interactive Metronome®
therapy lasts for 3 one-hour sessions per week and lasts about 6 weeks.
-
Direct Instruction/Therapeutic Support is
for 4 one-hour sessions per week and continues for as long as needed.
How long will it take my
child to be reading on their grade level?
Every child is different. The
amount of time children need depends on how far behind they are and what
is causing their struggle. The shortest amount of time we have
worked with a student is 3 months. Others have been with us for
about 2 years. We work with your child and their other service
providers to move their progress along as quickly as possible.
Are references available?
Yes, we keep a book of testimonial letters
in our office for your review. Due to confidentiality concerns, we
are not allowed to give out contact information. However, we do
have a list of some of our clients that may be willing to contact you.
Please let us know if you are interested.
Can someone come and speak to our
group or organization?
Yes, we are always glad to help parents,
educators, other service providers, and interested parties understand
what they can do to help children they know! We can also help
explain some of the difficult terms and conditions that can be part of
today's learning disabilities.
How much does it cost?
Every service is priced individually.
Once assessment is complete, we will discuss which combination of
services is appropriate for your child and make payment arrangements.
Please call if you have any question or concerns.
